On Monday, July 27, Paducah Parks & Recreation crews will begin a project to replace the playground at Kolb Park, located at 1650 South 6th Street in the Kolb Park Neighborhood of Paducah’s Southside.
The existing playground, installed in 2005, is due for an upgrade. Parks & Recreation crews will remove the existing playground next week. In early August, contractor Miracle Recreation will install new playground equipment along with a rubber mulch safety surface. The project is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Designed for children ages 2 to 12, the playground will feature two large play structures, a playground spinner that accommodates up to ten children, a climbing arch structure, slides, and swings. The swing area will include toddler seats with safety belts as well as inclusive seats with higher backs for added support.
“Kolb Park may be one of Paducah’s smaller parks at just two acres, but it is a well-used neighborhood park featuring a restroom facility, an open field that’s perfect for passive recreational activities like flying a kite or throwing a Frisbee, a pavilion, and one of the City’s larger playground spaces,” said Director of Parks & Recreation Amie Clark. “This new play area will be a perfect fit for the neighborhood with vibrant colors and play structures designed for a variety of ages. One of our roles as a Parks & Recreation Department is to provide safe, inclusive spaces for families, and I know the community will enjoy this new play area.”
During the playground project, Kolb Park will remain open. However, visitors are asked to use caution around works crews and equipment.
The City of Paducah is funding this project through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
