Paducah Police Department Launches Free Gun Lock Safety Program

Date of Release:
April 07, 2026

The Paducah Police Department is pleased to announce the launch of a new Gun Lock Safety Program, an initiative designed to promote safe firearm storage and reduce accidental injuries within our community. Through a partnership with Project ChildSafe and the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the department will provide free gun locks and educational materials to the public.

Gun owners may visit the Paducah Police Department lobby during regular business hours to pick up a free gun lock. Printed firearm safety information will be available, and no paperwork or personal information is required to participate.

Research indicates that securely storing firearms, such as keeping guns locked and storing ammunition separately, can prevent nearly one‑third of accidental and youth‑related firearm deaths. Yet, studies show that fewer than half of gun owners consistently lock their firearms, underscoring the importance of accessible safety resources like this program.

As part of the community outreach effort, officers will host a booth at the Paducah Farmers Market on May 9, 2026, to distribute gun locks and offer guidance on safe firearm storage. Additional opportunities to receive locks and materials will be available at future community events throughout the year.

The Gun Lock Safety Program underscores the department’s ongoing commitment to preventing accidental firearm injuries, encouraging responsible gun ownership, and enhancing the safety and well‑being of Paducah families.
